Washington Park - A Featured Denver Neighborhood
Washington Park is located in South Central Denver and is an ideal location for outdoor enthusiasts. German landscaper, architect Reinhard Schuetze, designed the 165-acre Park between 1899 and 1908. Within the Washington Park (also known as Wash Park) confines are two lakes Smith and Grasmere, 54 flowerbeds (an exact replica of George Washington's wife, Martha Washington's garden located at Mount Vernon), a recreation center, indoor pool, a lawn bowling/croquet field, 2.6 mile jogging, biking, in-line skating and walking path, two playgrounds, and ten tennis courts. Washington Park is known as Denver's largest and most active parks and hosts over 250 picnic permits each year!
Washington Park's eastern limits are framed by retro-style apartment complexes and new condominium developments. On Washington Park's western region, also known as Wash Park West is lined with early twentieth century Victorian-style brick homes, Contemporary pop-top homes, new built luxury homes and townhomes. By 1886, Washington Park was known as one of Denver's first suburb. The neighborhood has two separate areas, Washington Park and Washington Park West, each area is operated by their own separate registered neighborhood associations.
Washington Park has such a broad appeal because of its central location, and its walking proximity to appealing cafes, record stores, restaurant/bars and quaint boutiques located on Old South Gaylord Street and South Pearl. It will also be readily accessible by the light rail station located on Louisiana Avenue on the southern part of the neighborhood known as the transit project T-REX.
