Sloan Lake - A Denver Neighborhood

The focal point of the Sloan's Lake Neighborhood is the177 acres lake named after Thomas F. Sloan the original owner and founder of the natural aquifer that practically formed a lake overnight. Legend has it that Mr. Sloan was either digging a well or plating potatoes when the natural aquifer or high water table was pierced. After many unsuccessful attempts to sell his acreage, Thomas Sloan had implemented plans for development of his estate. Shortly after the plans were executed Thomas Sloan died and regrettably left legal estate claims that would not be resolved for sixty years. Soon after the estate resolution during the 1930's channels were built to connect Sloan Lake to Cooper Lake to create what is known today as Sloan Lake.

Sloan's Lake Neighborhood is predominantly occupied by single-family residential homes and duplexes built during the 1930's. Many of these homes have been remodeled including adding additional square footage while encompassing the beautiful architectural styles of the era with modern luxuries.

Sloan's Lake is enjoyed by tourists and locals alike as the park features two playgrounds, fishing, picnic areas, flower gardens, pedestrian pathway, tennis court, basketball court, football court, softball court, soccer field and is host to the annual Dragon Boat Festival.

Sloan Lake is encompassed by:

West 29th Avenue to the North
West 10th Avenue to the South
Sheridan Boulevard to the West
Federal Boulevard to the East
